Call for Proposals

Imperialism Project

It is the150 year anniversary of the infamous meeting of Stanley and Livingston.  The city council has voted to appropriate funds for the creation of a day memorializing the “Age of Imperialism”.  The event should acknowledge the profound impact that European imperialism has had on the shaping of the modern world, both positive and negative.

Next week the City Council on Commemorative Events will be accepting proposals.  Only one will be accepted.  The best proposal will be one which: 1. effectively communicates the ethos around which Europeans view non-whites, 2. effectively communicates the multifarious consequences of imperialism both in Europe and in the imperialized nations, 3. explains why this period of history should be commemorated by the city, 4.. engages participants in an enjoyable but meaningful way.
